Cysgod y Garn

Cysgod y GarnCysgod y Garn is a Country house which stands in its attractive grounds, surrounded by own beautiful organic farmland within a short drive of Bala Lake. Traditional Welsh welcome and a relaxed atmasphere. We combine yesterday's charm with today's comfort. The name Cysgod y Garn literally means "in the shadow of the Garn". Garn being the name of a very old farmhouse that used to be close to the site of this house, but has since fallen derelict. It stands within the Snowdonia National Park with it's spectacular mountains, beautiful green valleys, heather-clad moor lands with a wealth of flora and fauna.

Our family have been farming this land for two generations, and we are currently rearing sheep and the famous Welsh Black cattle. Frongoch is steeped in history, Abraham Lincoln is a direct descendant of one of the families who lived at the farm. The 17th Century saw the owners of Frongoch deeply involved with the turbulent and violent beginning of the Quaker movement. Our guests are most welcome to visit the farm during their stay, farm tours are available on request.

The house consists of a large relaxing furnished lounge with open log fire, colour T.V. and Hi-Fi for guest use. From the lounge, French doors lead to a comfortably furnished Conservatory and patio area which give an expansive view of the surrounding countryside. The dining room is airily decorated and traditionally furnished to create the feel and warmth of a country farmhouse.

All guest bedrooms have en-suite and are equipped with colour T.V., tea/coffee-making facilities, radio alarms and a sitting area. Each one is beautifully decorated to a high standard to create a friendly and relaxing atmosphere and of course central heating is available when appropriate, so that guests are comfortable whatever time of year.
